Meet Génesis

Génesis just started third grade. Her mom collects recycling near the school, which is how we got to know the family. They are struggling, as she is a single mom with four kids, but we are excited to be able to help them. The first couple weeks have been hard for Génesis as she is very shy and lacks self-confidence. She needs a lot of help and positive affirmations to complete each assignment. She has already begun working with our psychologist.

Today we were working on exclamatory sentences in Language class and they needed to write a sentence expressing the emotion of “joy.” I asked her, “What makes you happy?” and Génesis replied, “coming here.” 😭
